Secret Belgian Binding

Stepping On Out, Teddington

In this one day bookbinding workshop we’ll uncover the mystery of the Secret Belgian Binding.

This forgotten technique, dating back to 17th century, was rediscovered in the 1980s and has become a very popular binding in recent times with its stunning decorative stitching, adhesive free structure and ‘Jacobs ladder’ effect covers.

Mylyn will talk you through preparing sections and covering boards before moving on to stitching the covers and the sections to create your own beautiful binding.

At the end of the day you’ll go home with your gorgeous book and the skills to make more.

This workshop is suitable for all levels, as no prior experience of bookbinding is required

All tools and materials are provided, including a great range of decorative papers to choose from, but feel free to bring any papers of your own too.

We’ll be serving lots of tea, coffee and cake throughout the day and there’ll be a break for lunch, when you can either eat a packed lunch or treat yourself at one of the many cafes in Teddington.

Please bring an apron.

The workshop will be taught by multi-award winning professional bookbinder, Mylyn McColl.
