In this wonderful one day workshop with local artist and experienced tutor Sophie Boyce, you’ll learn how to make a linocut landscape.
During the day, you’ll have the opportunity to experiment with different mark making techniques onto lino and then create your own design onto a final block.
You’ll be guided through the skills for transferring images onto your block, cutting and mark-making, proofing, making reductions and revisions, mixing inks and finally printing your own handmade images!
We’ll have different coloured inks and a variety of types of paper for you to print on using two different relief printing presses. You’ll also be introduced to hand printing methods using a traditional bamboo barren.
At the end of the day you should have a series of 5 to 10 prints to take home and a larger (A5) lino or two smaller blocks to continue printing with.
All tools and materials are provided, but please feel free to bring any papers of your own that you’d like to use.
Please bring an apron with you and one or two designs (up to A5 in size) that you would like to create a print from. Please note that due to time constraints we will be printing in one colour only in this first session, so keep your image simple!
We’ll be serving lots of tea, coffee and cake throughout the day and there’ll be a break for lunch, when you can either eat a packed lunch or treat yourself at one of the many cafes in Teddington.
This workshop is suitable for both beginners and also people with some prior knowledge of printmaking.
Sophie Boyce has a BA in Graphic Design & Illustration and an MA in Printmaking from UAL and is a practicing printmaker, artist and teacher.
“I greatly enjoyed this relief printmaking workshop, Sophie is such an experienced printmaker and she effortlessly tailored her teaching to each person’s ideas. We each created such different work and I left greatly satisfied and keen to continue what I’d learnt on my own and to hopefully return to learn more from Sophie in the future.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed the relief print session with Sophie. Her depth of knowledge and style of teaching printmaking enabled me to create a piece of work I was proud of.”
