Drawing for Beginners

Sun 30th Jan 2022
10am – 1pm

United Response, Teddington

Drawing can be a powerful way to express an idea that sometimes cannot be said in words.

In this informative, yet also fun and supportive, workshop, experienced teacher and professional artist Karen Iredale will introduce participants to various techniques using simple black lines on a page to great effect.

Great artists like Picasso, Matisse and Hockney all have a visual language that use the technique of pattern and line. in the workshop, Karen will give examples of this language and demonstrate how patterns and lines can be used so effectively to depict objects and natural forms.

During the class, you’ll be introduced to different black and white mark making techniques and encouraged to try them out for yourself.

We’ll have a patterned bowl and citrus fruit for you to draw, but feel free to bring a personal object of your own if you prefer.

The workshop is suitable for both absolute beginners and those with a little drawing experience.

Please bring along with you an A3 sketch pad with paper thickness about 180gsm and also a set of graphite pencils including 2B, 4B and 6B and a paint brush size 4-7, together with a pencil sharpener and an eraser.

In the event that the class is unable to go ahead due to the ongoing covid-19 virus situation, we will of course offer all participants the option of an alternative date or refund.
